I’ve double-booked my collection – what should I do?

Firstly – don’t worry, we understand that people’s circumstances sometimes change. If you do need to cancel – it’s important to let us know as soon as possible; that way, we can cancel your collection and make sure no one is billed for a wasted journey.

What does ELV mean?

An End of Life Vehicle (ELV) is a car that can no longer be used on UK roads – and therefore must be scrapped. ELVs must be disposed of by Authorised Treatment Facilities that will handle the scrap materials in a way that follows Environment Agency guidelines.

Which part of the log book do I need to make sure if filled out?

Both you and the person collecting your car will need to complete section 9 of the official DVLA V5C document. This confirms that you have sold your car to a scrap yard. It’s your responsibility to make sure this is completed and sent, but the collection partner who picks your car up will be more than happy to help.

Can a family member be with the car instead of me?

Yes, that’s fine. The law that covers scrap car collection simply requires that someone over the age of 18 is with the car – but it doesn’t have to be the owner or registered keeper. Your nominated person will still need to show our collection driver proof of ID (a passport or driving licence is ideal) – and, if you can’t provide the log book with the car, a proof of address too.

How do I get a SORN?

To declare your car as being kept off the road, you’ll need to make a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN). To do so, contact the DVLA, either through their dedicated internet service or by post.

Is the price I’ve been quoted guaranteed?
