I want to keep my personalised plate – is that possible?

Yes, that’s no problem at all. To make sure you don’t lose your personal registration mark when you scrap your vehicle, you should contact the DVLA to make sure it’s removed from the car. The quickest way to do this is through their online service – although you can download postal forms from the website too. It’s important to make sure the registration mark removal is complete before you scrap the car – as it can be difficult to get your plate back later.

What should I do with the V5C log book?

On collection day, you’ll need to complete section 9 of the V5C log book document relating to the car. Section 9 is the yellow slip on the third page of the form – and, when sent back to the DVLA, will update their ownership records. As the current keeper of the car, it’s your responsibility to do this – but the person collecting your vehicle will be more than happy to help.

Do I get payment before collection?
