Can I change my mind about selling my car for scrap?

Yes. You’re under no obligation to sell your car. If you decide not to, please just let us know as quickly as possible, so we can cancel your collection without anyone incurring a charge.

I’ve seen the term ‘ATF’ used – what does it mean?

An Authorised Treatment Facility – or ATF for short – is the name given to a scrap yard or breakers yard that follows strict government rules around the dismantling, storage, and recycling of end of life vehicles (ELVs). We only work with ATFs.

Will you send my insurance company a COD?

We don’t send a Certificate of Destruction – but the DVLA will issue a COD to the scrap yard that handles your car. In turn, they’ll send a copy on to you for you to keep on record.

Is it okay for me to keep my private registration?

Yes. You should do this by applying for a number plate retention certificate through the DVLA. You can apply either online or through the post. You will be able to transfer the registration to a different vehicle or an official retention document. It’s important to make sure this process is complete before your car is removed.

What is an ELV?

ELV stands for End of Life Vehicle. ELV describes any vehicle that can no longer be used or repaired, either as a result of normal wear and tear or accidental damage. ELVs are dismantled, depolluted and recycled at government accredited authorised treatment (ATF) facilities.
