Frequently asked questions

We’ve answered some common customer questions here. However, if you’ve got a question that’s not on the list, you’re more than welcome to browse our full range of FAQs – or get in touch using our instant messaging service.

An authorised treatment facility (or ATF for short) is the name given to a scrap yard that meets with government regulations regarding the handling of scrap metals. Only ATFs can produce the paperwork you need to confirm that the car is no longer your responsibility, so you should always deal with an ATF if you’re selling a scrap car.

Yes. Since every scrap yard we work with meets ATF standards, they will request a Certificate of Destruction (COD) and have a copy forwarded to you.

An ELV (End of Life Vehicle) is the name given to a car that is going to be scrapped. As such, if you’re planning to dispose of your car, it will be considered an ELV.

Yes. Our well-equipped scrap yards have the equipment needed to handle a massive range of vehicles of all sizes.

When your car is collected, you’ll need to complete section 9 of the V5C vehicle log book. For V5C documents issued after April 2019, the relevant part of the document has been moved to section 4. Don’t worry if you’re not 100% sure what to do – our collection driver will be happy to help.

Absolutely. The scrap car dealers we work with in Berkshire are only concerned with the value of the car, not the number plate. You’ll need to ‘retain’ your registration through the DVLA before the car collected to make sure there’s no problem keeping the plate.
